HOW TO RESET YOUR AIR CONDITIONING UNIT

HVAC technician in Utah explains how to reset air conditioning unit

A broken air conditioning system is probably the worst thing that could happen to you during summer. This tends to happen more often when the weather outdoors is warm and the unit is operating more frequently.

If your unit stops working or functioning properly, that can be a big concern. Especially during the summer heat. However, it is never as bad as when it breaks down and you find that you are not prepared financially for this big of an emergency. You might feel frustrated and powerless considering the sudden change of comfort that you and your family might experience in your home.

If the problem is not a result of any damage to the AC components, you can reset your system and restore the normal functioning of the air conditioner right away.

3 WAYS TO RESET  AC UNIT & COMPRESSOR

Resetting your air conditioning system is the easiest way to restart your system and restore its services. The following are various methods that you can use to get your system up and running in no time at all:

1. FIND THE RESET BUTTON AND PRESS IT

Nowadays, most air conditioning units come with a reset button. This button should be labeled clearly, is usually red, and is usually on the lower exterior of the AC unit.

Step-by-step instructions:

  • Turn the AC unit off.
  • Press and hold the reset button for 3-5 seconds.
  • Wait 10 minutes.
  • Power on the AC System

ALTERNATIVE: USE THE SHUTOFF BUTTON

If you can’t find the reset button, use the shutoff button instead and follow the above step-by-step instructions.

If you are not sure where to find the reset button, you can consult the system manual or call our expert technicians at 844-216-9300 for assistance.

2. TURN OFF THE AIR CONDITIONER THROUGH THE THERMOSTAT INTERFACE

Turning off the air conditioner through the thermostat interface ensures that no air conditioning processes are running—this brings to a halt all the processes and realigns all the components for a future booting or startup process.

3. RESET THE BREAKER FOR THE AIR CONDITIONER IN THE CENTRAL CIRCUIT BREAKER UNIT

After turning off the air conditioner through the thermostat, reset the breaker in the central circuit breaker unit. This relieves the system of any current flowing into the conditioner and resets the air conditioner’s programming.

After you shut off the breaker, wait 30 minutes before moving on to the next step. Essentially, this is time to reboot the system.

TURNING YOUR AC UNIT BACK ON

Turn the breaker back on and switch the thermostat to cool mode. Set the thermostat temperature about 5 degrees cooler than the overall room temperature.

Once you have your AC unit back on, you should have a reset AC unit that is working properly. If a few hours pass and no cool air is blowing, you may have a bigger issue. If this is the case, contact the HVAC experts at YES! by calling 844-216-9300. One of our qualified technicians will be able to schedule a visit and help you fix your unit.

RESETTING AIR CONDITIONERS WITH NO RESET BUTTON

Most air conditioners today come with a reset button attached to the compressor unit. Typically, it is a red button and is very visible to an onlooker.

To reset your air conditioner, all you have to do is press the button, and you won’t have to worry about all the heavy lifting. However, in the particular case where your air conditioner does not have a reset button, follow the following steps to reset your unit.

  1. First, turn off the power supply connected to your compressor unit. You can do this through the shutdown panel located next to the unit. Once the power supply is off, shut down the power supply through the unit breaker from the circuit breaker box.

  2. Disconnect the system component from the power supply points by unplugging the system. This will ensure that the air conditioning unit doesn’t get any power. Give the system 30 minutes to cool down before plugging it back into the power supply.

  3. Before turning on the AC unit breaker, ensure that the thermostat can operate in ”cool” mode.

  4. Finally, turn on the external power supply.

If none of the above procedures work, your system could be experiencing problems with the power supply or a dirty filter. Failure could also be due to problems with the internal workings of the air conditioner.
